Zee TV is reportedly preparing to end its iconic drama Kumkum Bhagya, which first premiered on April 15, 2014. According to industry insiders, the finale is expected to air in August 2025—marking the conclusion of the show after over a decade on-screen. As part of a major content overhaul, Zee is transitioning toward fresh fiction, including upcoming dramas like Ganga Mai Ki Betiyaan from producers Ravie Dubey and Sargun Mehta
Reports indicate that Kumkum Bhagya has struggled to sustain viewership, with TRP ratings averaging just around 1.0—considered low for a prime-time slot. Despite numerous revamps—including three generational leaps, cast changes, and crossover tracks—the show has failed to regain its earlier momentum.

When the third generation leap was introduced, it brought new leads like Pranali Rathod and Akshay Bindra (later replaced by Namik Paul) to refresh the plot. However, the efforts failed to raise engagement. Zee TV had originally extended the show until the end of the 2025 IPL, hoping the new storyline would revive interest.
Fan sentiment, especially on Reddit, reflects growing frustration. As one user posted:
“Kumkum Bhagya’s leap is not getting well accepted … It’s about time these 1000+ episode shows that have lost their plots shut down.”
Others echoed similar disappointment over repeated leaps without proper continuity:
“They don’t give a proper conclusion for the previous leads… they just killed them off off screen.”
These concerns mirror declining TRP trends, reinforcing the narrative that the show is scarcely clinging on despite production resets.
In February 2025, Zee TV had introduced Pranali Rathod and Akshay Dev Bindra as fresh leads, hoping to rejuvenate the long-running serial. Yet, after barely three months, reports surfaced that the show would likely be wrapped up by May 2025—just as the new generation starts to get established.

To stem the decline, the makers even attempted a crossover storyline with characters from Kundali Bhagya, bringing in Shraddha Arya as Preeta and Shakti Anand reprising his role as Karan. Despite such star power onboarding, ratings remained stagnant.
At over 3,100 episodes, Kumkum Bhagya remains one of India’s longest-running soaps. But despite glory days with lead protagonists like Abhigya and early seasons that topped TRP charts consistently, the current narratives are struggling to retain the audience’s engagement.
This marks the probable end of a major era for Zee TV and Ekta Kapoor’s production legacy. Though fans have criticized the pacing and logic of recent leaps, the show’s long tenure underscores its earlier dominance in TV storytelling. As the channel moves toward newer shows, viewers can expect closure and finality soon on-air.
