Mumbai, August 26, 2026: Veteran actress Aruna Irani was visibly emotional as she arrived at the crematorium for the last rites of her husband, filmmaker Kuku Kohli, who passed away on August 25 at the age of 77. The funeral in Mumbai saw several members of the Hindi film industry gathering to pay their final respects to the celebrated filmmaker.
Kuku Kohli reportedly died after suffering a cardiac arrest. He passed away at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai, leaving his family, friends and colleagues in the film industry mourning his loss.
Aruna Irani Pays Final Tribute to Kuku Kohli
Aruna Irani, who married Kuku Kohli in 1990, was seen arriving for the filmmaker’s funeral in a visibly grief-stricken state. The veteran actress appeared emotional as she attended the last rites of her husband at Mumbai’s Oshiwara crematorium.
Videos and photographs from the funeral showed the actress mourning the loss as family members and members of the film fraternity gathered for the final farewell.
Bollywood Comes Together to Mourn Kuku Kohli
Several Bollywood personalities attended the funeral to pay their respects to the late filmmaker. Vicky Kaushal, Katrina Kaif, Rohit Shetty and Javed Akhtar, among others, were reported to have attended the last rites.
The gathering reflected Kuku Kohli’s longstanding connection with the Hindi film industry and the impact he had on several artists throughout his career.
Kuku Kohli’s Contribution to Hindi Cinema
Kuku Kohli was best known for directing Phool Aur Kaante, the 1991 film that marked Ajay Devgn’s Bollywood acting debut. The movie became an important milestone in Devgn’s career and established Kohli as a notable filmmaker in Hindi cinema.
Over the course of his career, Kohli directed films including Suhaag, Haqeeqat, Anari No. 1, Zulmi and Yeh Dil Aashiqanaa. His work remained associated with some of the popular Hindi films of the 1990s and early 2000s.
Following his death, Ajay Devgn also remembered the filmmaker in an emotional tribute, saying that Kuku Kohli was among the people who had changed the course of his life and expressing gratitude for the faith he had shown in him.
