UPI changes their rule of Limits, Timings, & many other changes. Here is the brief detail about the UPI update.
Starting August 1, 2025, new UPI rules have come into effect to improve security and system efficiency. Users can now check their bank balance only 50 times per day per UPI app, and view linked bank accounts up to 25 times daily. AutoPay transactions such as EMIs and subscriptions will only be processed during off-peak hours—before 10 AM, between 1 PM and 5 PM, or after 9:30 PM.
If a transaction is pending or fails, users are allowed to check its status only three times with a 90-second gap between each attempt. UPI apps must now display the transaction result (success or failure) instantly, and they are also required to show the recipient’s registered name before any payment is made. Additionally, there are stricter backend API usage limits to avoid overloading the system and ensure smoother operations.

Here is some detailed information about UPI changes:-
1. Balance Check Limit
- You can check your account balance via a UPI app only 50 times per day per app (rolling 24-hour period).
- Only user‑initiated requests count—auto-checks by apps are not allowed.
- To reduce repeated balance checks, apps must now display your account balance automatically after each successful UPI transaction.
2. View Linked Bank Accounts
- You can view the list of bank accounts linked to your mobile number only 25 times per app per day.
3. Auto‑Pay (Recurring Mandates) Timings
- Recurring payments (like SIPs, bill‑payments, subscriptions, EMIs) will be processed only during non‑peak hours:
- Before 10:00 AM, between 1:00 PM–5:00 PM, and after 9:30 PM.
- Each mandate allows up to 4 execution attempts (1 initial + 3 retries) to complete a recurring payment.

4. Pending/Failed Transaction Status Checks
- If a transaction is stuck or failed, you can check its status up to 3 times, with at least 90 seconds between each retry.
5. Recipient Verification
- Before confirming any payment, UPI apps must now display the recipient’s registered bank name and transaction ID, reducing chances of wrong transfers or fraud.
6. Enforcement & Compliance
- Banks and UPI apps had until July 31, 2025, to implement these changes.
- Non-compliance may result in:
- Penalties
- Restrictions on API access
- Suspension of new customer onboarding.
Other Related Updates (Earlier Effective Dates)
- As of June 2025, UPI API response times have been significantly improved:
- Status checks and failed‑transaction reversals now respond within 10 seconds (down from 30 seconds),
- “Valid address” verification lag reduced from 15 seconds to 10 seconds.
- Recipient name display rule began from June 30, 2025, and continues under the new regime.
What Remains Unchanged
- No change in the per‑transaction or cumulative transaction amount limits: still ₹1 lakh in general (₹5 lakh for specific categories like taxes, healthcare, education).
- Daily transaction volume, transaction type limits, and UPI Lite features remain unaffected by today’s update.

Why These Changes?
NPCI introduced these measures to:
- Reduce unnecessary traffic on UPI servers (e.g., repeated balance checks).
- Smooth out peak‑hour congestion and improve processing times during high demand.
- Help protect users by enforcing checks on recipient identity and setting retry limits.
- Ensure fair usage across all UPI stakeholders while enabling scalable growth
