On May 6, 2025, the Indian Army launched “Operation Sindoor,” conducting precision strikes on nine terrorist infrastructure sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. This action was in retaliation for the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, where 26 civilians, including 25 Indians and one Nepali citizen, were killed.

The Indian Army described the operation as “focused,” “calibrated,” and “non-escalatory,” emphasizing that no Pakistani military facilities were targeted. The strikes aimed to dismantle the roots of cross-border terror planning.
In response, Pakistan condemned the strikes as an “act of war,” reporting at least 26 fatalities, including civilians, and claiming to have shot down five Indian fighter jets—a claim not confirmed by India.
The situation has escalated tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors, with international leaders, including the UN Secretary-General, urging restraint to prevent further confrontation.
