“The searches revealed that Sethy and his family members own two farmhouses in Taragaon under Borigumma.”
BHUBANESWAR/JEYPORE: On Friday, the Vigilance Department uncovered assets worth several crores of rupees, including two farmhouses spread across more than 14 acres of land and 49 high-value plots, belonging to an Assistant Executive Engineer posted in Kotpad block of Koraput district.
The anti-corruption agency conducted raids on seven properties linked to Satyanarayan Sethy across Koraput, Khurda, and Kendrapara districts as part of an investigation into his alleged disproportionate assets. During the searches, officials discovered that Sethy and his family members owned two farmhouses in Taragaon under Borigumma.
One farmhouse, spread over 10 acres, was being used for mango cultivation and eucalyptus plantations, while the other, covering 4.35 acres, was dedicated to eucalyptus cultivation.
Vigilance officials also searched Sethy’s ancestral home in Derabis, Kendrapara district, as well as his government quarters and office chamber in Kotpad.
The official was also found to own 49 plots located in the tehsils of Jeypore, Borigumma, Kotpad, and Pottangi, along with a two-bedroom flat in the Jatni area of the capital city and another two-bedroom flat in Jeypore.
In addition, investigators detected bank deposits worth ₹60.92 lakh, household assets valued at ₹5.52 lakh, and cash amounting to ₹5.48 lakh. They also recovered 940 grams of gold and 2.5 kilograms of silver from his possession.
“Preliminary investigations have revealed that, of the total plots owned by Sethy, 17 are suspected benami properties that were purchased in the names of his relatives. His flat in Jeypore is also believed to be a benami asset, as it is registered in the name of a close associate. The valuation of his farmhouses, flats, and plots is currently being carried out by our technical team,” a Vigilance officer said.
The engineer was also found to own two benami vehicles—a Tata Harrier SUV and a two-wheeler.
“Sethy has been detained in connection with the case. Further searches are underway, and additional assets are likely to be uncovered,” the Vigilance officer added.
Sethy joined government service in 1998 as a junior engineer at the office of the Chief Engineer, Upper Kolab Division in Koraput, with a starting salary of ₹7,100. He later served in various roles across Koraput and Nabarangpur districts and was promoted to Assistant Executive Engineer in September 2025, after which he was posted in Kotpad block.
