Athletes from more than 100 countries took on the 128th Boston Marathon today. While most of the nearly 30,000 runners who cross the finish line at Boylston won’t take home any prizes, a select few will become champions. Here’s who won.
Sisay Lemma of Ethiopia wins 2024 Boston Marathon after a strong early attack
Lemma defeated two-time defending champion Evans Chebet and the rest of a talented field with a stunning solo attack early in the race.
Men’s professional division:
- Sisay Lemma, from Ethiopia, completed the race in 2:06:17.
- Mohamed Esa, from Ethiopia, completed in 2:06:58.
- Evans Chebet, from Kenya, completed the course in 2:07:22. He previously won the Boston Marathon in 2022 and 2023.
Women’s professional division:
- Hellen Obiri, from Kenya, completed the race in 2:22:37. It’s her second consecutive Boston Marathon win.
- Sharon Lokedi, from Kenya, completed in 2:22:45.
- Edna Kiplagat, from Kenya, completed in 2:23:21
