Recent media reports indicate that Tesla has been in discussions with Andhra Pradesh, which is offering pre-acquired land in multiple locations. The state has emphasized its infrastructure readiness, including port connectivity, to facilitate Tesla’s entry.
Earlier states like Maharashtra and Gujarat were also in the race to woo Elon Musk-led company.

This move can be traced back to October 2024, when Andhra Pradesh Minister Nara Lokesh met Tesla’s CFO, Vaibhav Taneja, during a US visit. Their discussions focused on Tesla’s role in India, particularly in the EV and clean energy sectors within the state.
Tesla Showroom In India
Tesla is reportedly scouting showroom locations across India to establish its presence in the auto market. According to a Times of India report, the company has secured showroom space in Aerocity, near New Delhi’s international airport—a prime business hub with hotels, retail outlets, and corporate offices. In Mumbai, Tesla has chosen the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), a major commercial and retail district near the city’s airport.

These developments follow Tesla’s recent hiring spree in India, with job postings for positions such as business operations analyst and customer support specialist in the ‘Mumbai Suburban’ area, as per the company’s website. This recruitment drive is seen as a precursor to Tesla’s formal entry into the country.

Elon Musk-led Tesla is set to make its long-awaited entry into India this year with its first EV shipment. The California-based electric vehicle giant plans to bring a few thousand cars to a port near Mumbai in the coming months.
According to a Bloomberg report citing sources familiar with the matter, Tesla aims to begin sales in three major cities—Mumbai, Delhi, and Bengaluru—around the third quarter of the year.
