Sonam Wangchuk, the renowned climate activist and innovator, has concluded his 21-day hunger strike in Ladakh. His protest was centered around two critical demands:
- Statehood for Ladakh: Wangchuk fervently advocated for granting Ladakh the status of a separate state.
- Inclusion in the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution: He emphasized the need to protect the indigenous tribes of Ladakh by incorporating the region into the Sixth Schedule.

Despite ending this phase of his hunger strike, Wangchuk made it clear that this is not the end of the agitation. The struggle will continue, fueled by the aspirations of the people. Over the past 20 days, a remarkable gathering of 10,000 individuals at the protest venue and participation from over 60,000 others underscored the significance of these demands.
In a heartfelt appeal, Wangchuk urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to safeguard the Himalayas and implement the Sixth Schedule in Ladakh. His commitment to environmental preservation and the well-being of Ladakh’s communities remains unwavering.
