Tamil Nadu politics witnessed dramatic twists after actor-turned-politician Vijay and his party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) emerged as the single-largest force in the Assembly elections. However, despite the massive victory, the road to government formation turned into a tense political battle as TVK initially fell short of the crucial majority mark.
TVK reportedly secured 108 seats in the 234-member Assembly, while the majority mark stands at 118. This triggered intense negotiations with smaller parties and allies as Vijay attempted to stake claim to form the government in Tamil Nadu.
The situation became more dramatic after Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Arlekar reportedly asked TVK to return only after proving majority support from enough MLAs. Congress openly backed TVK’s government formation efforts, while parties like VCK, CPI, and CPM held key discussions before extending support.

According to multiple reports, the support from VCK and Left parties eventually helped TVK touch the crucial 118-seat mark, strengthening Vijay’s claim to become the next Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
The political developments sparked massive reactions across the state. Several film personalities and political leaders urged authorities to respect the people’s mandate. Meanwhile, opposition parties DMK and AIADMK were also reportedly exploring strategies to stop TVK from taking power.
Even as suspense over the swearing-in ceremony continues, Vijay’s rise has already reshaped Tamil Nadu politics. His transition from cinema superstar to a potential Chief Minister marks one of the biggest political stories in the state’s recent history.
